Is CHH a Genre of Music, a Label, or a Restriction of Style?

This article is in reply to Trip Lee‘s statement and Viktory‘s reply. It was brought to my attention via Twtter & DJ Wade-O + CHICAGOrilla

We have fought with a label since the conception of a gospel / Christ-centered Hip-Hop. Nobody wants to be called a name they don’t feel they are confined or restricted to. The term is Christian Hip Hop or more commonly know to the social media world as CHH. Rapzilla & DaSouth support and promote CHH artists. We are a community of artists, emcees, rappers, and producers that live a Christian lifestyle and reflect that lifestyle through our music and lyrics. But why do we hate being labeled as CHH?

Congrats to The @WadeORadio Show for A Million Podcast Downloads!

The following except is a message from DJ Wade-O;

Hey Fam,

On Wednesday Morning, we crossed a very significant milestone in the life of our ministry. As many of you know, we’ve been airing The Wade-O Radio Show for 5 years. Prior to switching our podcast host 2.5 years ago, we did not have a great way to track how many people were listening to or downloading our show. When we switched hosts, we were quickly able to determine how many people tuned in, where they were listening from and on what type of device.

On Wednesday, while we were preparing to load this week’s show, we noticed that our total downloads had just crossed 1,000,000. Yes. Our show has been downloaded 1,000,000 times in 2.5 years. Say that with me again. ONE MILLION downloads. That’s a big number and extremely humbling to consider that God would use me for such a work as this. It’s even more humbling when you consider that we were inactive for 6 of those months and didn’t release any new episodes.

When we started this show nearly 5 years ago, I never anticipated that we’d be able to reach that many people in such a short period of time. I’d like to thank each and everyone of you who has supported us via prayer, listening on the radio, downloading the show, subscribing to our podcast feed, buying our mobile app, or supporting us financially. I truly appreciate you.

You Don’t Have to be Lecrae to be Used by God (via @DaSouth.com)

Guess what? You don’t have to be Lecrae to be relevant, signficant, or even have an effective music ministry. And you know what else? Lecrae would agree 100%.

First things first, shoutout to Lecrae and Reach Records for all that they have done to bring glory and honor to the Lord Jesus Christ. Their ministry is very much appreciated and is a blessing to many throughout the world. Thank God for them! I mean that sincerely.

So why this write-up? Well, on November 11, 2011 an artist (who I won’t name) hit me up on Facebook with a private message. I wanted to share the message he sent because I’m sure that he isn’t the only artist who has probably had this thinking. Here it is…

PR: Soul Anchor Music – A Ministry for Ministers, a Community for Common Unity

Chris Treborn’s goal with Soul Anchor Music

Chris Treborn has is a Christian Hip-Hop artist that loves sharing the stage and the limelight, especially with his fellow brother and sister artists. He has shared the stage with some big names in Christian Hip-Hop like GRITS, CookBook of LA Symphony, and Braille Brizzy himself. When he opened up for GRITS in 2010, he shared half of his 30 minutes of stage time with Myra Hart. Christian admits “I love her voice, even though people compare her to Adele, she has something uniquely different about her.” Perhaps it is her soulful rhythm and blues style with a punch of pop that makes her stand out. Or maybe it is her vocal range – which puts her above and beyond the capabilities comparable to Adele and P!NK.
