The odometer on my 2005 Saturn ION read 116116 when I encountered the grace of GOD!
Yesterday I was saying how we have to get up and get ready and move quickly when the time comes. We have a chance to change our current condition for the better. Jesus will lead us into a new place which he has planned and willed for us. As content or comfortable as we are in our current state, the LORD has something better for us. But here is the catch. The odometer
Jesus isn’t going to open the door pick us up and throw him over his shoulder like some superhero. Naw. We are created to work for it. Therefore Jesus will make us work for it. If we are handed something where can we be humble. Won’t we be puffed up with pride saying “look at all I have accomplished!” God wants us to be humble servants.
We work according to GOD’s will and he will reward us with joy which we can’t boast in. If we brag, we can only brag on our LORD. “Look at what GOD did here!”
As I’m reminded of all this, I had another reminder this morning on my way to work. I was driving northbound on I-5 from Salem to Portland when I suddenly felt pulled to the left just a bit. It was enough to touch them loud bumps on the left to warn you about the shoulder. Next thing I hear what sounds like a motorcycle and I notice how I’m being pulled to the left. I realized I had a flat and decided to pull all the way to the right and off the highway onto the right shoulder.
I get out to change a flat because that’s what men do. As the semis flew by I prayed to Jesus that he would calm the storm and protect me. Hey, listen here Jack. I wasn’t asking to be rescued or saved or anything. Naw. Then halfway through taking my flat off an Oregon State Patrol officer pulled behind me and threw on his lights to protect me on the side of the road. Thank you Jesus.
The funny thing is when he approached me. He asked if I was putting it on or taking it off. I told him taking it off. He then told me he had a better tool for that. He comes back from his vehicle with a tire iron. Now, you might think he would change it for me. But he knew I was a man and he was going to let me be a man. So, he watched as I changed the tire. He then asked if I was good and I said yes, indeed!
Here is a great example from the Bible.
Now when Herod was about to bring him out, on that very night, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries before the door were guarding the prison. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood next to him, and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him, saying, “Get up quickly.” And the chains fell off his hands. And the angel said to him, “Dress yourself and put on your sandals.” And he did so. And he said to him, “Wrap your cloak around you and follow me.” (Acts 12:6-8 ESV)
